One of the huge responsibilities for Navigatu, the Technology Business Incubator (TBI) in Caraga State University (CSU), is not only to look after its startups or its incubation program inside the University (CSU) but to include the establishment or building of the startup ecosystem in Butuan City and in Caraga Region from scratch. With this, Navigatu hosted the first Butuan City Startup Ecosystem Mapping held at the Grand Palace Hotel last February 20, 2020. This event is part of the TBI 4.0 program activities made between the DOST PCIEERD TBIs and QBO Innovation Hub. CSU's Navigatu is one of the 12 TBIs under the TBI 4.0 Program.
Present were various stakeholders of the ecosystem including Dr. Anthony M. Penaso, Caraga State University (CSU) President, and representatives from the different government agencies and the private sector.
Navigatu also sought from the attendees if they are willing to be the Startup Champions in Caraga. The birth of the acronym Caraga Region Innovation and Startup Ecosystem Mapping (CaragaRISE) thus was born.
The Startup Champions in Butuan City present in the mapping included:
Hon. Cherry May Busa, LGU Butuan Councilor and Caraga ICT Council President;
Ms. Jocelyn Yee and Sir Kirby Go of the BC Chinese Chamber of Commerce;
Engr. Ramil Sanchez, Director of the Philippine Science High School Caraga;
Engr. Lawrence Salang of the DICT Caraga;
Engr. Noel Ajoc of DOST Caraga;
Engr. Dan Baulete, Proprietor of KOMSPEC - ICT and Engg company;
Mr. Rico Asumen, PSITE Caraga President;\
Representatives from AMA Computer Learning Center and other schools in the city; Startup founders representatives: Transeek and RentalHub;
Navigatu thanked the very active and highly engaging team from QBO Philippines, namely, Dave, Jackie, and Dess, who tirelessly ran the activities, engaging the participants actively and making the event a success! Navigatu is also thanking Ms. Natasha and Ms. Katrina for sending young and committed Startup Champions facilitator here in Butuan.
